Johan began playing the trumpet at the age of 9. He studied at the local music school and continued his studies at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama with Nigel Boddice, Iain Muirhead and John Gracie where he gained a Bmus (performance) Hons.
Upon graduation, he received the “British Reserve Insurance Prize for Early Music”. He is currently studying for a Postgraduate Diploma in Music Performance with Peter Franks. He has received coaching and attended Master Classes with John Wallace, Hakan Hardenberger, and Ole Edvard Antonsen.
During his time at the RSAMD, Johan has performed in all its ensembles, including the Symphony and Chamber Orchestras and the award winning Academy Brass. He was also the winner of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra Apprenticeship Scheme.
Johan also maintains a keen interest in period instrument performance and recently performed in Bach’s Christmas Oratorio alongside Stephen Keavy.
