ÓLAVUR OLSEN

Born 1977. Olavur began playing the trumpet at the age of 10 in the local brass band. At the age of 20 he began studies at the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus with Kristian Steenstrup and Martin Schuster as his main teachers. He received his diploma exam in 2003.

 

He has attended masterclasses with amongst others Håkan Haardenberger, Matthias Hoffs, Adolph Herseth and trombone player John Kenny.

 

 He also studied improvistation with Jesper Riis and Lars Vissing as his main teachers and attented masterclasses with saxophone players David Liebmann, singer Marie Bergman, drummer Dennis Mackrel and jazz trumpet players Lew Soloff. and Tim Hagans.

 

He has played with a broad variety of groups and orchestras. Amongst others Kluvers Big Band, European Youth Jazz Orchestra and the Faroese Symphony Orchestra.

 

He has since moving back to the Faroe Islands worked as a freelance classical and jazz musician being soloist with various ensembles and doing studio recordings with different groups.

 

A regular member of Faroese ensemble Aldubáran since 2007.

 

He also teaches the trumpet at the Faroese Music School.
